

Dar Niaba, meaning “home of the Naib”, refers both to the residence and the office of the Naib, who acted as the Sultan of Morocco’s representative to foreign communities in Tangier. This role was established in the 1840s and continued until the Treaty of Fez in 1912, which marked the end of Morocco’s sovereignty. The office concluded when thge last Naib, Mohammed Tazi, became Tangier’s
Mendoubia upon the creation of the Tangier International Zone.

and a small art collection
