As another focal point of Tangier, this former bustling marketplace still hosts a handful of traders and vendors offering fresh fruit, local crafts, and trinkets.

It serves as one of the primary hubs for public transportation, where the historic charm of old Tangier converges with the modern cityscape. At the heart of this area lies the serene Mendoubia Gardens, home to a majestic banyan tree believed to be 800 years old.

Known also as Place du Grand 9 Avril 1937, it was here that Sultan Mohamed V, the grandfather of the current King Mohamed VI, delivered his momentous speech proclaiming Morocco’s independence and its membership in the Arab League.
