After World War II, Tangier became home to a generation of American and French authors. In 1949, the Gerofi family from Belgium, driven by their passion for literature, founded a bookstore that became a cultural hub. As a renowned gathering place for literary figures such as Samuel Beckett, Jean Genet, Juan Goytisolo, Tennessee Williams, and Truman Capote, the city fostered a vibrant literary scene.

This bookstore not only celebrates Tangier’s rich literary history but also serves as a bridge between the
city’s diverse arts, cultures, and languages. Today you can find a wide selection of novels, essays
and books in French, English, and Spanish.
